Commander’s Corner
Stan Kinney –Commander
I would first like to announce that Gary Flore will be our new Club Manager. Gary has been an AMVETS member for quite a while and has a good relationship with anybody that talks to him. He has a lot of bar and restaurant experience and he is excited to take us to the next level. Who knows what he has in store for us so keep an eye out.
I am impressed by our new officers. Our first executive board meeting was very positive and a lot of good ideas were passed around. Clancy has a special project called Operation Forth Friday in Westerville. He has constructed a booth to take down to the event and promote AMVETS 89 and our career center. The Honor Guard, Sons, and Ladies have all participated. If you would like to help Clancy please contact him at the post.
Plans are in the works to transport a real WWII tank from Cleveland Ave. to Post 89. We are not sure on the exact date, but soon. We are talking to the National Guard and some former Sea-bees about the project. The boy scouts will be coming soon to transport our career center bridge to their park where it will be placed over a small stream. Many thanks to 3rd Vice Commander Ted Mitchell who donated mulch to complete our
playground near the picnic area. Bob Yorde donated the new swings. We are also checking into replacing a lot of rain gutters and wood on the shelter house. It would be nice to assemble a work detail for some outdoor activities. Please contact me about that.
Our career center is definitely on the forward swing again thanks to Clancy. We have a lot of new students coming in everyday. We are still taking names for our CPR class. The class will be soon and the sign-up is on the clubroom bulletin board as well as all the upcoming state activities such as golf and bowling tournaments, picnics, pool, horse shoe, and corn hole competitions.
The biggest thing was our annual picnic and officer installation in the shelter house. Awards were given out and a lot of fun, food, and games were had by all. An activity such as that requires a lot of cooperation between all of us and that is what we received. I would like to say thanks to all that participated.
Finally I would like to say that a year or two ago, many people, including our own counted us out. But as you can see Post 89 is still here and going strong. It is not only due to the hard work of our trustees and finance officer, but it is due to our members coming together and becoming a super team. 89 stood up and said "We will not go slowly into the night, but we will fight to save our post." That is why I am still here, and I bet that is why you are still here. By the way AMVETS 89 can brag that we are the home of the Department 1st Vice Commander, Dept Provost Marshall, Dept Saddest Sad Sack, 12th Dist. Ladies Aux President, and a bunch of other high ranking persons. Thank you listening. Good bye and God bless.
1st Vice Commander
